Dear blog readers,

Some of you have asked me for details about my topology map I use in the labs. Starting from the lab 168, I have unified the physical connections for LAN/WAN allowing me to accomplish any logical topology. This way I do not have to create .net maps for each lab anymore. I change initial configurations instead. I use linux (UBUNTU flavor) to run my labs. Diagrams, .net map and some generic configs can be found at the link below the pictures. The topology used in this blogs (from lab 168) look like presented below.

FAQ

Q: What software do you use to create your topology diagrams?
A: I use free vector graphics software (open source) called INKSCAPE.

Q: Where did you get those router and switch icons?
A: Technically I do not own the rights to using those. My dear friend (Andy) have created them for the purpose of this blog. You can reach him at:
http://szoblik.blogspot.com

Q: Do you use a real equipment in your labs?
A: No, I use dynamips supervisor running under 'Dynagen' software. Currently I do not use GNS3.

Q: In the latest labs (starting with MPLS) you use one physical topology diagram and change the logical topology ad hoc through configuration. Can you share the topology map so I can use it in GNS3?
A: I have created this topology diagram in a text editor and use it in Dynamips. If you know how to convert it to GNS3 I am going to make it available as soon as possible. It will include Graphical topology, dynamips text file and initial configuration. Will be published on 13th of January 2013.

Q: Are you going to answer my individual questions regarding the lab challenges/solutions?
A: I will do my best but you must be patient. If you do not hear me in a week or two try to send me and email. Sometimes the comments get lost.

Q: I have followed your lab and implemented the solution but it did not work with me. Why?
A: Occasionally, I make some typos while copying stuff from my terminal software. But I rest assured, the solutions did work with me. Double check your configuration and make sure you have not made any mistakes.

If you have a question or query, please do not hesitate to contact me. My email address is here.
